HEALING

May all beings everywhere plagued with suffering of body and mind

quickly be freed from their illnesses.

May those frightened cease to be afraid.

and may those bound be free.

May the powerless find power

and may people think of befriending one another.

May those who find themselves in trackless,

fearful wildernesses

– the children, the aged, the unprotected –

be guarded by beneficent celestials,

and may they swiftly attain Buddahood.

JOY

Jewish Prayers

DELIVERANCE

We lay in darkness and gloom,

prisoners in misery and chains,

crushed in the spirit with toil,

and with no one to help.

 

Then we cried to the Lord in our need,

and he rescued us from distress.

He led us forth from darkness and gloom,

He broke our chains to pieces,

He burst the gates of bronze,

and He shattered the iron bars.

 

It was you who took me from the womb

entrusted me to my mother’s breast.

You  are my God,

my shelter, my rock, my shield and my deliverer.

 

My soul shall live for you my God

and declare to generations yet to come:

God saves!

ESTHER

“My Lord, you alone are our King.
Help me, who am alone and have no help but you.

From birth, I have heard among my people that you, Lord,
chose Israel from among all nations
as a lasting inheritance,
and that you fulfilled all your promises to them.

But now we have sinned in your sight,
and you have delivered us into the hands of our enemies,
because we worshiped their gods.
You are just, O Lord.

Be mindful of us, Lord.
Make yourself known in the time of our distress.

JOB

My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle;

they come to an end without hope.

Remember, my life is like the wind;

as you look at me, I shall be gone.

As a cloud dissolves and vanishes

so I shall not again return to my house.

Though I have sinned, what can I do to you

O, Watcher of men.

Take away my guilt for soon I shall lie down in dust

and should you seek me I shall be gone.

Why o God hide your face

and consider me your enemy?

Will you harass a wind-driven leaf?

Oh, that I were as in the years past

as in the days when God kept his lamp shining over my head

and by his light I walked through darkness.

God I know you can do all things,

no purpose of yours can be hindered.

I have dealt with great things that I cannot understand;

things too wonderful for me, which I cannot know.

I have heard of you by word of mouth, but now my eyes have seen you,

therefore I disown what I said,

and repent in dust and ashes.

Muslim Prayers

FRIENDSHIP

In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful.

Praise be to the Lord of the Universe

who created us and made us into tribes and nations,

that we may know each other,

not that we despise each other.

If the enemy incline towards peace,

do thou also incline toward peace, and trust in God,

for the Lord is the one who hears and knows all things.

And the servants of God, Most Gracious,

are those who walk on earth in humility,

and when we address them, we say, “Peace”.

GUIDANCE

O Allah,

if in your knowledge this matter is good for my faith,

for my livelihood and for the outcome of my affairs,

then decide it for me and make it easy for me and bless me therein;

but if in your knowledge this matter is bad for my faith

for my livelihood and for the outcome of my affairs,

then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it,

and decide for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to be pleased with it
